Port Orange Entertainment & Recreation
As with other beachfront towns and cities on the Atlantic coast, there is a lot to do in Port Orange. Port Orange is right up against Daytona Beach, and only a few minutes away from all the activities and amenities the resort town has to offer. Port Orange entertainment also includes the Orlando area, with its amusement and theme parks. However, one doesn’t necessarily need to drive for long to find things to do in Port Orange.
Port Orange Recreation
Aside from all the community recreation, like hiking the nature preserves and attending clubhouse style activities, there are local attractions that are unique to the area. Here are a few of those Port Orange recreation features.
Shenandoah Stables. This attraction in Daytona Beach offers pony rides, hay rides, trail excursions, and much more.
Gamble Place. James N. Gamble (Procter and Gamble) built a cracker bungalow in a wooded area near Port Orange. This somewhat whimsical house was his until he died in 1932.
Spruce Creek Preserve. Mountain biking in Florida? Sure! Spruce Creek Preserve offers many miles of challenging trails, some steep and even dangerous.
Sugar Mill Gardens. Also known as The Dunlawton Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens, you can take a leisurely walk along the paths and enjoy the varied plant life, some of it quite exotic.
Port Orange Golf Courses
There are over 30 golf courses in and around the Port Orange area. Many are championship courses and beautifully designed. Within Port Orange proper, several of these courses stand out.
Only six miles from Port Orange are the LPGA courses: LPGA International, Champions Course and LPGA International, Legends Course. Legends was built specifically with women in mind, and won a place in the Top 50 Courses for Women in the 2004 Golf for Women Magazine.
Port Orange Water Activities
Aside from golf, festivals, attractions, and Daytona Beach auto racing, there is always the local water sports and activities. Sometimes just a day at the beach is what you need to relax and wind down. However, don’t forget the boating and fishing opportunities available in Daytona Beach. There is ample opportunity for sailing, motorized boating, as well as shore and deep sea sport fishing.
Water sports include the usual swimming and snorkeling, but there is a good surfing culture here as well. There are local area surfing schools that are always willing to take new students. Jet skiing is always a popular sport here as well, and there is plenty of opportunity for wind surfing.
If you like to fish, you have a lot of choices. You can either find lake fishing inland or head out onto the Atlantic. There are lots of charters available to take fishing parties or just groups out for some deep sea sport fishing.
