Ormond Beach Entertainment & Recreation
Opportunities for entertainment in and around the Ormond Beach area are numerous and widely varied. Even within each community there are lots of activities for families and individuals, from lake fishing to hiking and water sports. Ormond Beach is also within driving distance of Orlando and its lovely amusement parks, theme parks, and resorts, and is right next door to Daytona Beach and is seaside auto racing culture.
However, that’s not all there is to Ormond Beach recreation. Here are some more activities that are sure to make Ormond Beach even more appealing.
Ormond Beach Golf
There are currently a whopping seven golf courses in this suburban community, and each one is a beautifully laid out course with lots of amenities for golfers.
Club de Bonmont at Plantation Bay is a private community course reserved for Plantation Bay residents and their guests. This country club course was designed for all levels of golf play.
Prestwick Golf Club is also a private Plantation Bay course. There are several protected areas for wildlife, and you can see them on the course. Deer and wild turkeys are common, and you might see an alligator now and then.
Halifax Plantation is a semi-private course, and has beautiful borders with trees and brush. Now and then you can see wildlife like deer and wild turkeys.
Oceanside Golf & Country Club is yet another private club in the area. It is near the ocean and beautiful views are commonplace, and also offers dining and a clubhouse.
River Bend Golf Club is a semi-private course with lots of trees but not much water that will affect your play.
Riviera Country Club is a semi-private course known for its interesting sand play. A good choice for beginning and intermediate players.
Tomoka Oaks Golf & Country Club is semi-private as well and has lots of oak trees on the grounds. It’s said to be the best course in the area to walk due to the flat topography.
Other Ormond Beach Activities
If you’re tired of beaches, auto racing, and golf, there is still a lot to do in Ormond Beach. How about a museum? The Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens is a local favorite, and offers art lessons and special exhibitions. The Casements is part of the National Register of Historic Places, and was a home formerly owned by John D. Rockefeller. The Casements has historical exhibits, classes, and gifts.
Florida has its share of state parks as well. One of the local parks is called Tomoka State Park, and is a former home for Native Americans. Formerly a fishing spot for local tribes, its now reserved for fishing and canoeing. There are a number of species that is protected by the park, including the manatee. There are a plethora of bird species as well. The park also offers a museum, boat access, and supplies for backwoods camping and hiking.
