Orlando Relocation
Relocating is often a stressful and worrisome experience. Some would tell you it isn’t worth it. But that depends on where you go. You will have many concerns, such as schools, safe neighborhoods, homes for sale, and above all the local cost of living. Even if you’re familiar with a place through multiple visits, you still don’t have the kind of inside information a resident has. The Realty Xperts can help you find Orlando homes for sale to suit your family and can guide you through some of your more basic decisions. Here is a short review of things to consider with your Orlando relocation:
Orlando Demographics
In the 2000 census, Orlando claimed 185,951 people in it’s city proper, with almost 90,000 households. 8.5% of households had residents over 65. 22% of those households contained children under 18. The median income for households in the city was just under $38,000, and for a family it was nearly $41,000. A great deal of employment comes from tourism and hospitality industries--the local economy relies heavily on these due to the local entertainment venues.
Orlando Schools
The Orlando students are served by the Orange County Public School system. The OCPS was recently recognized (for improved math and reading scores on standardized tests) by the Council of the Great City Schools. In April of 2007, OCPS received the Public Sector Award from the Americas SAP Users’ Group. It has received many other recognitions and awards as well.
Orlando Hospitals
Orlando is peppered with great hospitals and clinics. Florida Hospital is considered a favorite among the Florida residents, and there are lots of specialty hospitals as you would expect to see in a city this size. Orlando also boasts the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children & Women, a highly specialized pediatric and women’s hospital that was conceived in the 1970s and has grown to be one of the most trusted names in children’s care in the world.
Relocating a Family to Orlando
Relocating an entire family can often be a logistics nightmare. Children need different considerations depending on age and tolerance to travel. For example, children in their terrible twos can be a real handful on a long distance move. Unfortunately, not all families can afford to fly. So often a combination of flying and driving can work for a family, and employers often pay some or all of your moving expenses.
Moving pets is often difficult and sometimes heartbreaking. Transporting them in airplane cargo bays is dangerous, and some animals suffer. Many of the airlines are now allowing passengers to bring small animals into cabins in carriers. But if you can’t take your loving pet with you and are having difficulty finding them a home, please don’t abandon the animal--find foster care or a local no-kill pet shelter. It may be painful but it need not be deadly.
Cost of Living in Orlando
Cost of living can change drastically from one place to another. It can be a deal breaker when considering a move to another area of the country, and should not be taken lightly. For instance, if you were moving to Orlando from Albany, New York, your effective cost of living would actually go down, even though you will probably earn less. Coming from another place your cost of living may go up. Make sure you do your homework before making a final decision.
