Orlando Recreation
Everyone knows Orlando, Florida, is well known for its entertainment and recreation. Much of the city’s economy is built around it, and depends heavily upon tourists for its sustenance. As a result, Orlando continues to build and improve parks, as well as add new ideas and other forms of recreation to its already long list of choices. Here is a short review of Orlando recreation, theme parks, and sports events.
Orlando Theme Parks
These parks are world renowned to anyone over the age of five. This cluster of parks and discovery centers make Orlando more than it’s motto--The City Beautiful. They make Orlando The City Fun.
While Walt Disney World is sometimes thought of the young child’s paradise, everyone will have fun at this resort. There are accommodations right on the park’s grounds, and you have your choice of other parks within the system. Magic Kingdom is where young children can play with their fantasy characters, and can help Buzz Lightyear man the laser cannons, watch the Disney characters’ symphony orchestra in Mickey’s PhilharMagic, enjoy the comedy at Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor and much more. While you’re there, don’t miss the Epcot Center, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, and the MGM Studios.
Marine animal lovers will be thrilled with Orlando’s Sea World. Ride the rides, see the great animal shows, and join Shamu’s Club. If you have very young children, there is now a Sesame Street show available. If you really want to get your child involved in sea conservation and appreciation, there are lots of camps available for all grade levels.
Want to swim with some of the sea creatures? Well, you can at Discovery Cove. You can snorkel among the reef life and swim with dolphins, and you can even learn about dolphin behavior and habits through the Trainer for a Day program. You can explore marine life up close and personal, and even take their portraits with an underwater camera.
If you really need some thrills, try Universal’s Island of Adventure. It’s one of three Universal theme parks in the area (which include Universal Studios and Wet & Wild), and offers amazing rides and other thrilling adventures for the whole family.
Orlando Sports
This city isn’t just rides and sea life. Don’t forget that Orlando has its own basketball team, the Orlando Magic. This year the Magic worked their way into the postseason for the first time since 2003. Dwight Howard had his first All-Star year, and a return by Grant Hill.
Orlando also has an arena football team, called the Orlando Predators. Founded in the early 1990s, the Predators have become one of the league’s most winning teams. There is also plenty of college sports and league play for your enjoyment, and includes almost any sport imaginable.
