The first thing you might think of when someone says “Daytona Beach” is, of course, the beach. Daytona could be said to be one long beach--the city is stretched out along the Atlantic Ocean sands like a cat in the sun. It is known as the World’s Most Famous Beach, and has been active as an attraction since the early 1900s. Daytona Beach has historically been the place to go for college students on spring break, but their numbers have dwindled since the city’s crackdown on their notoriously poor behavior. However, it’s still popular enough to draw eight million tourists per year and host popular festivals--they know there is no better way to enjoy the great Daytona Beach weather. Listed below are only a few of the many reasons so many choose to move here and purchase Daytona Beach real estate.
Daytona Beach Golf
Because it’s a resort area, Daytona Beach is peppered with fine golf courses and clubs. As of this writing, there are seventeen world class courses in the area. Some of them are:
- Crane Lakes Golf & Country Club
- Daytona Beach Golf Club North & South
- LPGA International Champions
- LPGA International Legends
- Spruce Creek Country Club
These fine Daytona Beach golf courses are within close proximity to other tourist attractions and hotels, making them available for residents, tourists, and business visitors.
Daytona Beach Motorsports
There is a reason why Daytona Beach is called the Birthplace of Speed. It is home to many races and car shows, and boasts several speedways, such as the Daytona International Speedway. Some of the most popular races are the Daytona 500, Pepsi 400, and the Rolex 24 Hour.
One of the favorite activities is the Richard Petty Driving Experience, where you can strap yourself into a harness and learn how to drive the course like the pros. While you’re there, don’t miss the Living Legends of Auto Racing Museum, which features photos, historical artifacts, and antique race cars. Daytona Beach recreation isn’t complete without a visit to one of the speedways.
Daytona Beach Nature Viewing
This beach area isn’t all race cars, museums, sunning, and shopping. It is home to a sea turtle nesting grounds, which are active from May through October. The turtles come to shore at night, dig deeply into the beach sand, and lay their eggs. Then they cover them up and go back to the sea. Months later the baby turtles crawl out of the hole and make a dash for the ocean. If you are lucky enough to witness part of the sea turtles’ birth, you will be seeing a natural event that has been going on for thousands of years--make sure you don’t disturb it.
Besides the beach, motor sports, golf, and nature viewing, you can find much more recreation just by checking the local paper or the internet. In fact, an internet search can help you find exactly what you’re looking for in Daytona Beach recreation, and give you directions and maps as well.
